In this month’s principal’s message I wanted to share a bit of good news with all of you:
ASLAI and MAP Spring 2015 Assessments – In early March of 2015, HSDB students completed the spring sessions of the American Sign Language Assessment Inventory (ASLAI) and Measures of Academic Progress assessments (MAP). Both the ASLAI assessment, used by HSDB to measure student progress in their first language of ASL and MAP, in the areas of Reading, Math, and Language, indicate growth (significant) in ASLAI and (general) in MAP. Results will be posted on our school website . . . we are encouraged by the gains!
Family Learning Vacation – We’re happy to announce the return of Family Learning Vacation, an opportunity of family and friends of HSDB to come together for a weekend of learning and community-building. The event will take place on August 21 - 22, 2015. Stay tuned for details and how you can participate in FLV!
Extended Learning Opportunity - We know that the summer months can mean a lot of “down time” in learning for many of our students. This year, as part of HSDB’s Academic Plan, we have earmarked supplemental funding to offer extended learning opportunity (ELO) for all of our students. Your child will soon be bringing home information on Summer ELO for you to consider. We encourage you to take advantage of ELO by having your child participate in additional learning this summer!
We also want to remind you of changes to meal prices beginning in SY 2015-16 – next school year:
Breakfast K-8 $1.10
Breakfast 9-12 $1.20
Breakfast (2nd meal & adult) $2.40
Lunch K-8 $2.50
Lunch 9-12 $2.75
Lunch (2nd meal & adult) $5.50
Lastly, please feel free to contact Principal Juan, TA VP Ledgerwood, or TA DES Taguchi at 733-4999 at any time. We can schedule a meeting to discuss concerns and/or questions regarding your child.
