HSDB’s School Parent/Family Involvement Policy

Research shows that 95% of parents and families of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children have difficulty communicating with their children due to language barriers in ASL, English, and sometimes a third language (Ilocano, Tagalog, Marshallese, and Chuukese, for example). HSDB will make every effort, within reason, to train parents to communicate with their Deaf or Hard of Hearing children and become more involved in their child’s education and well being.  Parents/ Families need to realize that they are also knowledgeable and can contribute to their Deaf or Hard of Hearing child’s future success.
